I am incredibly grateful all things aligned for a vacation outside the states. I hadn’t left in a while, as flight phobia kept me from globe-trotting much. I knew planning a trip to Tulum would be the perfect way to overcome my fear of flying. With a few friends, I headed south of the border for five days of all the Mexican food I can eat! How’s that for pure bliss? As for getting there, tricking myself into avoiding all in-air anxieties was less complicated than I thought. I managed to prolong sleep until 4AM, and arrived delirious when I touched down in Mexico. Easy peasy lemon squeezy!

Day numero uno, was mostly spent traveling to my destination and unpacking in my gorgeous room. I brought a new friend with me, on this vacation I planned with my best friend and his boyfriend. In the evening of our first night, we rallied for some authentic Mexican cuisine. The food was predictably perfect, but what really did me in was, the Mariachi Band singing “La Cucaracha”. I sang along whilst drinking the most delicious Horchata I have ever had. As you can imagine, I was quite tired from all the hustle and bustle, but sweet slumber, on a king-size bed, made it all better.
DAY 2
The next morning we drank coffee poolside, then voyaged to the boutique fashion store Zak Ik at Azulik. If you ever make it to Tulum, you must visit their luxurious eco-friendly resort―it is simply magical. Afterward, we made an attempt at entering IK Lab, sadly it was closed for a photoshoot. We perused the streets, observing the beautiful structures left behind by Art With Me, Tulum’s art and eco-cultural festival. Los Amigos Beach (an amenity of our villa) is where we spent the remainder of our day, baking on the beach. We closed out the night with another yummy dinner in town, followed by ice cream.

DAY 3

With returning to IK Lab on our agenda, we gathered for a morning ride back to Azulik, on day three. This time, we popped in for coffee and made nice with the resort staff. At last, we were welcomed into the art gallery. And as I walked barefoot into the incredible space, I gazed in awe, delighting in the experience. I truly have never seen anything like it. Once we explored every corner, it was back to the beach club we went.

DAY 4

There was so much to see in Tulum, but little time to get to everything. I set my heart on stopping by Matcha Mama, for their illusive açaí bowls. And stop by we did. I made an appearance affront their very famous signs, and took photos on their swings. We later walked over to Raw Love for more grub, before landing back at Los Amigos Beach. On this night, we dined at home to connect with each other, and reflect on our experiences.

DAY 5

The good times had sadly come to an end. On our final day in Tulum, we enjoyed brunch at Papaya Playa Project, then scooted back to the beach. Before we stepped out for our last hoorah, we got some gift shopping done in town. I picked up copal incense and oil, along with a few amber bracelets for family back home. It’s no surprise we were all a bit morose to leave, but it was a wonderful five days spent exploring the Mayan ruins of Tulum. From our private villa to the white sand beaches at our favorite playa, this town will be missed.
