Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough, the geniuses behind Proenza Schouler, have done me proud. Their Fall collection was very familiar, even Hernandez’s statement confirms the familiarity I recognize. “It’s Asian, but in a New York way.” Immediately after reviewing the collection I thought to myself, this surely looks a lot like Alexander Wang. It’s beautiful and edgy nonetheless. The boys delivered new silhouettes for this season’s collection, gathering inspiration from kimonos, Yoko Ono, and karate. The entire Fall season has been boxy. From Céline, to Juun J., and now Proenza Schouler, I’ve been happily impressed collection after collection. Oversize is another element that has been prominent for Fall. Schouler’s boys have followed the trend giving us oversized Célinesque leather trousers, and fantastic oversized jackets. Jack and Lazaro’s exquisitely weaved leather jackets in navy, black, and white were major. But their brocade flippy miniskirts with leather waistbands were a real hit for me.
